How the catalog fits together

Your catalog is the list of everything you sell, plus the records that describe it. It lives under Stock → Catalog.

Record Compulsory? Page
Product The thing itself The product record
Category Yes — every product needs one Categories, brands and makers
Unit of measure Yes — every product needs one Units and packs
Brand, manufacturer Optional Categories, brands and makers
Variants Optional Variants
Price Optional, but nothing sells for anything without one Prices
Location listing Yes, to sell it anywhere Selling a product at a branch
Kit recipe Only for bundles Kits and assemblies
  1. Set up your categories and units of measure first. You cannot save a product without one of each.
  2. Create the product.
  3. Give it a price.
  4. List it at the branches that sell it.

Most of what a product does comes down to two Yes/No switches on its record, not to the product type you pick:

  • Track Inventory — No means it never deducts stock. This, not choosing “Service” as the type, is what makes something a non-stock item.
  • Combo Product — marks it as a bundle. Combined with Track Inventory it decides whether selling the bundle deducts its parts or its own stock. See Kits and assemblies.

Everything below is on top of the catalog.product permission.

Several limits also scale with your plan rather than being on or off: how many variants and attributes a product can have, how many price breaks a price can carry, and how much media you can upload. On the entry plan, variants are not available at all.

Section titled “Menu items that are not what they look like”
  • Label Templates, Label Print Batches and Product Translations are now real screens — see labels and translations. Note that a print job does not print anything.
  • Product Image Capture is now real — see labels and translations.
  • Pack Groups is not a screen. It shows a note pointing at a product’s “Packaging tab”, which does not exist — pack sizes live on the Pricing tab. See units and packs.
