Units and packs

You stock singles, you also sell a carton of twelve, and selling one carton should take twelve off the shelf.

  1. Open the product and go to the Pricing tab.
  2. Click New record to add a price row.
  3. Set the Price to the carton price.
  4. Set Pack type to Carton.
  5. Set Stock reduction to 12.
  6. Click Save.

At the till the cashier now sees both prices and picks the carton. The line reads “Carton ×12” and stock drops by twelve.

  1. Go to Stock → Catalog → Units of Measure and click New record.
  2. Type a Name — Each, Kilogram, Box — and an Abbreviation.
  3. Click Save.

Stock → Catalog → Units of Measure holds the units you sell in — Each, Kilogram, Box. A unit is just a name, an optional abbreviation and a status.

Every product must have one, so create the handful you need before you start adding products. A variant can override the product’s unit if it needs to.

Available on every plan.

This is the common requirement: you stock singles but you also sell a carton of twelve, and selling one carton should take twelve off the shelf.

That is set up on the price, not anywhere labelled “pack”. On the product’s Pricing tab, add a price row with:

  • the pack type — carton, box, bag, strip, pallet and so on;
  • the stock reduction count — how many units leave stock when one is sold.

At the till the cashier picks that price and the line shows the pack, for example “Carton ×12”. Stock drops by twelve.

See Prices for the rest of how a price row works.

Stock → Catalog → Unit Conversions records a relationship — one box equals twelve each — as a from-unit, a to-unit and a factor. A conversion can apply to everything, or be narrowed to one product, one branch or both.

Unit conversions need the Professional plan.
