How to record scrap
Section titled “How to record scrap”- Go to Manufacturing → Scrap Records and click New scrap record.
- Pick the Location — required, and it decides which products you can choose.
- Pick the Product. You can scan it, and the list shows the on-hand at that location.
- Enter the Quantity.
- Enter the Estimated cost. See the warning below — do not leave this blank.
- Pick the Reason: Material defect, Process error, Machine failure, Quality issue, Operator error or Other.
- Link the Work order if the scrap came off a job, set Reusable, and add a Description.
- Click Save. The record is a Draft and has changed nothing yet.
- Open the row menu and click Post.
Posting takes the stock off the shelf and, in most cases, writes off its cost.
How to undo a posted scrap record
Section titled “How to undo a posted scrap record”Open the row menu and click Cancel, adding a reason.
The stock comes back and the accounting entry is reversed.
Only a Draft can be edited or deleted. A posted record must be cancelled.
How to set up the defects you track
Section titled “How to set up the defects you track”- Go to Manufacturing → Defect Types and click New Defect Type.
- Type a Name — the only required field — and optionally a Code.
- Pick the Category: Cosmetic, Dimensional, Functional, Visual or Other.
- Save.
How to build an inspection checklist
Section titled “How to build an inspection checklist”- Go to Manufacturing → Quality Check Templates and click New Template.
- Type a Name and pick the Check Type: Incoming, In Process, Final or Sampling.
- Optionally pick the Product.
- Under Checklist Parameters, click Add Parameter for each thing to check. Set the Parameter name, the Data Type — Numeric, Text, Boolean, Pass/Fail or Drop-down — and the Target, Min and Max.
- Save.
How to record an inspection
Section titled “How to record an inspection”- Go to Manufacturing → Quality Defects. The page is headed Quality Checks.
- Click New Quality Check.
- Optionally pick the Work Order and the Template.
- Set the Check Type, the Status and the Check Date.
- Enter Checked, Passed and Failed, and pick the Inspector.
- If you chose a template, fill in the Measured value for each parameter.
- Under Logged Defects, click Add Defect for each fault: the Defect Type, the Severity, a Count and a Note.
- Save.
- Checked, Passed and Failed are three unrelated boxes. They need not add up and nothing warns you.
- The “Passed inspection” switch is entirely manual — it is not worked out from the status, the measurements or the defects. You can save a Failed check marked as passed.
- The number is not generated despite the hint saying it is. Leave it blank and the row shows a dash forever. Type your own.
- Wait for the template to load before saving. If you save too quickly after picking one, the measured values are dropped silently.
What quality does not do
Section titled “What quality does not do”| Block a work order from completing | No. Manufacturing’s work-order code has no reference to quality at all. |
| Quarantine or hold the affected stock | No. Inventory has a “quality check” hold reason, but nothing in manufacturing ever uses it. |
| Notify anyone | No. |
| Create a scrap record from a failed check | No. Key it in again by hand. |
The one place it all surfaces is the read-only Quality Summary and Scrap reports.
Everything here needs a connection
Section titled “Everything here needs a connection”None of these four screens works offline. With no connection the lists error and every save fails outright — nothing is queued.
