The bell and your inbox

Your inbox needs no permission and no particular plan. Everyone sees it, and everyone sees only their own notifications — there is no way to read someone else’s, and no administrator view.

The bell sits in the top bar on every screen, next to the sync indicator.

  1. A red badge on the bell shows how many you have not read, counting up to 9+.
  2. Click the bell to open the panel, headed Notifications.
  3. It lists your six most recent notifications, whatever the badge says.
  4. Click one to mark it read and close the panel.
  5. Click View all at the bottom to open the full inbox.

With nothing waiting, the panel reads “You’re all caught up”.

Open it from Notifications → Inbox, or View all in the bell.

Along the top: the page title, a two-way switch between all and unread only, a double-tick button that marks everything read, and a gear that opens your preferences.

Each row shows a coloured icon for its category, the title in bold if unread, a short preview of up to two lines, the time, and a blue dot while unread.

Pull down to refresh. That is the only way to fetch new notifications.

The inbox is deliberately simple, and several things you might look for are not there at all:

  • No search, and no filter by category or by date. All or unread, and that is it.
  • No delete. You cannot remove a notification, singly or in bulk. There is no archive.
  • No “mark unread” and no undo after marking everything read.
  • Nothing past the first 30. The list loads thirty notifications and stops. There is no paging and no infinite scroll, so an older one simply cannot be reached.

Read state is stored against you, not against a device. Reading something on your phone marks it read on your computer too — though, per the refresh warning above, the other device will not show that until it refreshes.

The bell only shows messages that were sent to the in-app channel. A message sent to you by email only — a password-reset link, a one-time code — is recorded but never appears in the bell. That is intended.

If you turn a category off for In-app in your preferences, it genuinely stops appearing.

Quiet hours do not silence the bell. They only hold back text messages, WhatsApp and push, so the inbox still collects everything overnight.

The inbox needs a connection and keeps no offline copy. With no signal you get an error and a Retry button, the bell shows nothing, and tapping to mark something read will undo itself when the save fails.

A notification you have read is deleted about 90 days after you read it. One you never read is kept indefinitely.

There is no setting for this and no way to delete something sooner.
